VALENTINES FOR FOOD 2012

Valentines for Food volunteers at McCaffrey'sLast year's Valentines for Food broke records in participation, food collection AND fundraising. Schools, the Rotary of Princeton, McCaffrey's Supermarkets, congregations, and individuals donated 11.7 tons of food and $19,200 in monetary contributions.

We can do it again with your helpSample Virtual Valentine!

We currently need volunteers (like David and Ahmed, above) to fill 1-hour timeslots through Feb. 16 at McCaffrey's Princeton or West Windsor. Volunteers hand out Valentines for Food fliers to shoppers. Send an email inquiry to valentinesforfood2012@gmail.com and we'll get right back to you!

In the meantime, watch for news from participating schools and congregations and order your Virtual Valentines (like the mini-version at right) so we can send greetings on your behalf to the special people in your life.

Download a half-sheet flier that can be printed and trimmed as a church bulletin insert.

Food StampedMany thanks to the Princeton Public Library and the Princeton Environmental Film Festival for teaming with Yes We CAN! Food Drives to screen the documentary FOOD STAMPED. The award-winning, often humorous documentary followed the filmmakers' one-week attempt at a well-balanced diet within a budget of about $1 per meal--the approximate food stamp benefit for low-income Americans. The panel discussion after the film featured a family that tried the budget for forty days; Crisis Ministry's Hunger Prevention Director Mark Smith; and Mercer Street Friends' Rucha Gadre, outreach coordinator for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly called food stamps). Liz Cohen, of the volunteer group Yes We CAN! Food Drives, moderated, fielding numerous questions from the standing-room- only audience.
