Take Action!

How can you help become an advocate for those who are hungry and facing homelessness?

One way The Crisis Ministry advances the mission of preventing hunger and homelessness is by educating and speaking in community circles about the need for change. We meet with scout troops, elementary school students, church groups, service organizations, and more, to challenge their creativity and use their voice!

Many university students come to our ministry and get involved with our clients during their undergraduate and graduate study. This enhances their college experience through new relationships that touch their lives, influencing their educational direction and reinforcing community involvement and volunteerism.

Our staff participates in annual conferences that update us on current legislative bills slated to come up for votes in the House and Senate. We serve on local and state coalitions that coordinate efforts to address state, local and federal officials about the importance of our front-line work with clients facing hunger and housing issues. We have educated our clients about current issues, such as Welfare Reform legislation, and facilitated letter-writing campaigns during critical weeks before Congress has met. We have arranged annual trips to Washington with our interns and other young adults, including some of our clients, to speak to congresspersons and senators about current trends in Mercer County.

Here are ways you can help as an individual or part of a group:

Host a group to volunteer at our store, serving clients, stocking shelves or packing food bags. We will also be able to spend time discussing current issues and educating your group on our mission.

Call us to speak to your group. We would be glad to come and raise awareness in your community by making a presentation about hunger and homelessness.

Volunteer to be a part of our Speaker Bureau. You will become more involved in the issues at hand!
