The Core Values of the Crisis Ministry

Our Core Values:
Hospitality to the stranger in need is the most basic value of The Crisis Ministry. Hospitality has a rich tradition from the Old and New Testaments that we want to embody in our response to the needs of low-income people.

Another value of The Crisis Ministry is empathy. Empathy means feeling with the other. We try to listen to the concerns of people in need and communicate our concern. We also try to set up our processes (forms of help, rules, physical space, etc.) to be welcoming and comfortable for people who are undergoing stress.

A central value of The Crisis Ministry is organizational integrity in dealing with vulnerable people. We know that the needs of our clients are real and immediate, so we want to respond with directness and speed.

Finally, our work in The Crisis Ministry is set within a framework of justice. Our acts of hospitality and empathy are small, but important, signs of God’s justice in a world that is filled with suffering and injustice. Our advocacy with and for low-income people are empowering on both personal and systemic levels.
