Food Drive Inspires Two Skillman Friends
We thank supporter Fran Engler of the group Yes We CAN for sharing this story:
"Hannah Taylor, 11, and Marcela Reichlmair, 9, got on their bikes on a recent Saturday afternoon and rode to the Montgomery shopping center where free ice cream was being handed out. But, instead of just receiving, these young ladies decided to give to the food collection held at the ShopRite by volunteers from the group Yes We CAN, which holds food drives throughout the area for CM. Hannah and Marcela overheard the volunteers asking shoppers for food donations, finished their ice cream cones, asked for a handout describing needed food items, and disappeared into the store. Out they came with a bag of canned food, which they handed to Mark Smith, Food Services Director, who had the Crisis Ministry van to collect some of the 226 bags of food donated that day. Hannah and Marcela used their own money to purchase the food. 'Born altruists' is how Hannah’s mother Andrea Taylor describes the friends. 'They are always looking for projects to help others.'"
The Yes We CAN food drive held June 28 at the Ewing ShopRite on Olden Ave. garnered 159 bags. Thank you, Yes We CAN and ShopRite!
The next drive will be Saturday, July 11, at Pennington Market on Route 31 in Pennington.
